This record clearly shows that even with an increase in incentives of more prize money, more races, more B.A.G.S. meetings, and more advertised open races, the attendance figures continue to fall, which leads me to the question we've been asking all along, why do we need more greyhounds?

Key indications, particularly in the attendance figures, numbers of earmarked litters, and the registration of new owners, show a steady decline. Those indicators, which are on the increase, particularly B.A.G.S. meetings, reflect a changing trend within the industry.

To introduce more greyhounds into the industry now would be a further, but far crueller attempt to restore the fortunes of the greyhound racing industry. The only sure outcome would be that of a higher proportion of greyhounds failing the grade, and that greyhounds would be massacred in larger numbers than ever before.

It is time to take a long hard look at greyhound racing as a whole, and try and get back to the basics, and forget about grants to prop-up an ailing empire.
